Los 11 que hoy probó el entrenador fueron: Esteban Andrada; Julio Buffarini, Lisandro López, Carlos Izquierdoz, Emmanuel Mas; Eduardo Salvio, Iván Marcone, Agustíin Almendra, Alexis Mac Allister; Mauro Zárate y Jan Hurtado. El Apache y Wanchope podrían ocupar el lugar de éstos dos últimos.
En un momento del entrenamiento, Alfaro volvió a trabajar con una línea de tres defensores aunque no tendría pensado utilizarla desde el arranque. El objetivo sería tener aceitada una variante en caso de ser necesaria en algún pasaje puntual del encuentro y dado el resultado de la ida.
Lo más llamativo sería la presencia de Almendra como complemento de Marcone en el mediocampo, cuando se presumía que podía ser Mac Allister y así tener un lugar más para un futbolista de características ofensivas. Sin embargo, el juvenil habría convencido al técnico y sería titular.
